Getting “Liked” by today’s incoming college freshmen requires getting to know who they are. While they share many factors with older Millennials, but what sets them apart will might surprise you. For starters, they value product quality over prestige, view their parents as role models, and are cutting the chord on traditional media.

Facebook Takes A Gamble With Timeline, An Elegant Update To The User Profile

At the end of September, Mark Zuckerberg (with a surprise appearance from Andy Samberg) took to the stage for F8, an annual announcement of Facebook’s newest changes. The most innovative and dramatic change, Timeline, will change the way Consumer 2.0 uses and thinks about the platform moving forward. The new profile layout instantly transforms Facebook into an elegant and seamless way to chronicle a user’s entire life story, sharing the most important milestones through posts, photos and “life moments”. The platform believes that Timeline will become so powerful that users will fill in the holes before they joined Facebook with personal content.

But the changes won’t just apply to user profiles. While Timeline for brand pages has not been revealed, the blogosphere is already buzzing with the news.

Bing & Mr Youth Show that ‘Friends Matter’ with VMA TV Spot

In May, Bing launched a new Social Search feature that partnered with Facebook to personalize the search by including friends’ likes to the results. To support this, Bing tasked Mr Youth with developing an online video series entitled ‘Friends Matter’ featuring relevant bloggers in the Health & Fitness, Music, Fashion and Style realms to support the launch. We spent the day with each of these influencers, giving the audience a rare glimpse into their lives and chronicling how friends have helped play a role in their key decision making.

The online videos were so well-received that Bing decided to utilize the video, featuring DJs/producers Terry Urban and Mick Boogie of Brooklyn, as their :60 spot during MTV’s Video Music Awards.
